Early Language Support – From Classroom to Daycare
The idea “From Classroom to Daycare” shows how my training at BFS Basel connects directly to what we do with the children every day. The training helps make our activities clearer, more structured, and even more helpful for children’s learning.
Principles of Early Language Support
Early language support helps children learn to talk and understand words in everyday life. The main ideas are:
- Language in everyday life: Talking and learning while playing, during routines, and in projects.
- Special ideas: Teachers give small, planned activities to help children learn new words and ways to talk.
- Lots of language around: Children hear and use language in many ways.
- Individual support: Every child gets help in the way they need it.
- Multiple languages: Children’s first languages are a helpful resource.
How We Do It in Daycare
The training from BFS Basel goes straight into our daily work:
- Watching and noticing: I look closely at children’s language and choose the next steps to help them learn.
- Language through play: In circle games, children learn words, sentences, roles, and talking with friends.
- Language in everyday tasks: While baking, children talk about numbers, actions, and steps.
- Language in creative activities: While crafting, we talk about colors, shapes, materials, and steps.
- Language in routines: During getting dressed, eating, cleaning up, and transitions, we keep talking with children.
Language is everywhere—while moving, playing freely, going on trips, talking, and being with friends.
Support from the Community
Children who start kindergarten next year get help from the community through a care voucher. This makes it easier to join early learning programs, especially those that help children learn language. Joining professional daycare and learning activities helps children start kindergarten confident and ready.
